Hockinson Excellence Award

This STEM memorial scholarship was created by the Hockinson Public Schools Foundation (HPSF) in honor of a local Hockinson resident who donated a large part of their estate to support Hockinson graduating seniors pursuing STEM degrees or careers. The scholarship reflects their passion and legacy for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The scholarship is called the Hockinson Excellence Award and has the following features:

  • It awards up to four $10,000 scholarships every year

  • It distributes the scholarships over four years in $2,500 increments

  • It requires applicants to meet the following criteria:

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be a graduate of Hockinson High School, Class of 2025.

  • Have had a positive influence on the Hockinson High School Community.

  • Plan to attend an accredited post-graduate college, university, or trade school within 18 months of graduation.

  • Preference will be given to applicants who expect to complete their education in the State of Washington.

  • Have a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.25 or higher.

Applicant shall:

  1. Intend to study in the STEM fields, with a preference for Engineering or Surveying. (Click Here for examples of STEM careers in the Skilled Trades)

  2. Expect to complete their education within four years maximum (can be shorter than four years, in which case the funds would be distributed in larger sums over fewer increments at graduation with proper documentation to the loan servicer.)

  3. To maintain the essence of the donator, the request is for the applicant to attempt to return to Clark County, WA, for employment - it is accepted that this might not always be possible, but the applicant shall strive to do so.

  4. Submit a 500-word essay describing the intended field of study, career goals, and reasons for choosing that field.

  5. Submit a list of all extra-curricular and community service activities detailing how long the applicant has engaged in each activity and any honors or awards received.

  6. Submit a minimum of two letters of reference from any of the following: (a) employer, (b) teacher, (c) coach, (d) administrator, or (e) community leaders such as church officers, Scout leaders, 4H mentors, etc. who has worked with the applicant over a minimum of two years and can attest to the character of the applicant.

  7. Please submit a completed application, which is downloaded below.

Additionally, due to the multi-year nature of this scholarship, the winners will further agree to the following as a renewal criterion.

  1. Before the start of each school year, at least two weeks before the tuition due date.

    •  Please provide all necessary information, including but not limited to a student ID number, other appropriate identifiers, and contact information, including the email address for the student and the school mailing address that would allow the foundation to communicate with the institution to submit funds to the student’s account.

    • Failure to provide all of the necessary information will result in delay or perhaps nonpayment by the Foundation of current and future scholarship money.

    • Submit a copy of the unofficial transcript to the Hockinson Public Schools Foundation at info@hpsf.org, showing continued direction toward STEM studies.
